Ingredient Research Highlights
Actaea racemosa (Black Cohosh): Black cohosh has a long history of traditional use by Indigenous North American communities for women’s health and menstrual irregularities. Research suggests it may help support relief of common menopausal symptoms, including hot flashes and mood-related changes. Observational research indicates certain standardized extracts have been associated with improvements in vasomotor and psychological symptoms during menopause. Black cohosh is widely recognized as a botanical traditionally used to support women during the menopausal transition.
Hypericum perforatum (St. John’s Wort): Hypericum perforatum has been studied for its role in supporting mood and emotional balance. Research suggests it may help reduce the frequency and intensity of hot flashes while also supporting psychological well-being during hormonal changes. Its proposed mechanisms include modulation of serotonergic, noradrenergic, dopaminergic, and GABA-related pathways, as well as regulatory effects on the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, which plays a role in stress response and mood regulation.
Vitex agnus-castus (Chaste Tree Berry): Vitex has been traditionally used for over two millennia in various herbal systems for female reproductive health. Research suggests it may act on the hypothalamic–pituitary axis and influence prolactin levels, which are involved in hormonal balance. Studies also indicate potential support for mood changes, irritability, and cyclical discomfort associated with hormonal fluctuations. Vitex is widely prescribed in traditional herbal practice for menstrual and menopausal support.
Trifolium pratense (Red Clover): Red clover contains naturally occurring isoflavones, including formononetin and biochanin A, which interact with estrogen receptors in the body. Research suggests red clover extracts may support relief of menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness. Additional findings indicate potential support for healthy lipid balance and antioxidant activity during midlife transitions. Red clover is commonly used in herbal practice as a supportive botanical during menopause.
